Woking Football Club is in mourning after the passing of former Press Officer John Moore and longstanding supporter David Hyde. Next fixture: vs Solihull Moors (away, 2027-02-17) (17th in the table).
Who were John Moore and David Hyde?
John Moore, known affectionately as ‘Mooresie’, was a former Press Officer and lifelong volunteer at Woking. He passed away on 23rd June 2026 after a short illness. Moore played local football for Weysiders alongside future Woking players Tim and Richard Buzaglo, with Shahid Azeem as his defensive partner. He served as Press Officer for 11 years, forming a reliable partnership with David Holmes.
David Hyde was a devoted season ticket holder and supporter whose presence will be deeply missed by the Woking community.
What contributions did John Moore make?
John Moore conducted countless post-match interviews and developed a close friendship with former manager Garry Hill. He was also a familiar voice as a BBC co-commentator for Woking’s home and away games. Moore mentored many commentators, including Adrian Harms, Jon Howick, and Gary Smith, and was known for his deep knowledge of the National League.
How will Woking remember them?
John Moore’s funeral will take place at Guildford Crematorium on Thursday 20th August at 1.30 pm, followed by a gathering at ‘The Ragged Robin’ on Guildford Road, Godalming. David Hyde’s funeral will be at Woking Crematorium on Wednesday 12th August at 3 pm. Both are open to all who wish to pay their respects.
